These are polyurethane foam dressings with no Adhesive border.
The are used either to absorb moderate to heavy wound exudate or alternatively to protect areas of delicate fragile skin, particularly in the elderly.
They can adhere to the skin after they have been left over the wound so they should not be used on very delicate areas of skin as this may cause pain when the dressing is removed.
in the Republic of Ireland, they are not covered under the Medical Card or under the Drugs Payments Scheme and so all patients must pay for them, whether or not they are in a Nursing Home or in Residential / Convalescent Care.
